BPB Architects were engaged by the clients to extend and fully refurbish their detached home located close to West Harptree.

We worked closely with the clients from the outset to explore layout options that provided better areas for their requirements. The proposed layouts created larger rooms, reduced circulation area and allowed more natural light into the interior whilst allowing views across the countryside and towards Chew Valley Lake.

BPB worked closely with the Local Planning Authority to obtain the required planning approvals for the proposed works. As the cottage was outside of a settlement boundary and within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty it took some time to manage through the planning system.

Once planning was successfully achieved, we worked closely with JD Carpentry & Bespoke Building to deliver the internal refurbishment of the existing house. Once the internal renovation was complete we started to work with Abbey Care Maintenance and Renovations to create the new single storey rear kitchen extension.

The construction works involved large steels in the existing house to open up the ground floor areas and a new oak framed rear extension to create a lovely light kitchen area.

The house has been transformed from a small, dark and poorly laid out set of spaces into a larger, lighter family home with great connections to the external areas.
