The Old Rectory

Scope:Grade II dwelling. Conversion of garage to residential annex.
Client:Private client
Role:Architect for Planning application
Dates:April 2021 – Dec 2021

BPB was employed to transform an 88sqm garage, originally attached to a Grade II listed 17th-Century rectory, into a stunning residential annex. The project presented an exciting challenge, blending modern design with the historic character of the property.

The garage, which originally featured three large doors, was reimagined using a mix of vertical timber cladding and glazed panels. These materials elegantly filled the original garage openings, maintaining a nod to the building’s past while introducing a contemporary aesthetic.

Inside, extensive alterations were made to convert the space into a comfortable two-bedroom annex. The layout was carefully designed to provide a practical yet stylish living environment, incorporating modern amenities while respecting the historical significance of the adjoining rectory.

The end result is a beautifully crafted annex that seamlessly integrates into its historic surroundings, offering a perfect blend of heritage and modern living.
