Working with an existing building often brings about unique opportunities and challenges. Avonwood Cottage was no different.
BPB were originally appointed to assist in the issue of tender documentation and appointment of a contractor, all drawings having been done by a different practice.
Following appointment of a contractor and commencing on site it became apparent that the retained elements of the house was in a poor state of repair, and it was agreed between the client and contractor that the complete demolition of the old building was the best way forward.
This demolition necessitated BPB to submit a new planning application. Following planning approval BPB worked with the contractor to provide bespoke details and construction build-ups to assist with building control and fabrication of the stairs.
The end result is a modest three-bedroom home with a large south facing open-planned living area. At first floor, a series of metal clad dormers articulate the roof and showcase a sun-drenched staircase.
