Welcome back to another episode of Ask the Architect.
Today, I’ll be looking at how you can make your home or extension as energy efficient as possible.
The first step is to take a fabric-first approach. This means maximising insulation in the walls, floors, and roof to create a highly thermally efficient building while ensuring it is airtight.
The second key factor is installing a Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR) system. This helps circulate air within your home, maintaining warmth while ensuring proper ventilation.
Finally, we consider bolt-ons—these include photovoltaic (solar) panels, ground source heat pumps, and air source heat pumps, all of which can provide renewable energy to keep your home warm in the long term.
